Dear Saksha ji,
Mammography, which is a diagnostic X‑ray for breast health, is typically considered an outpatient diagnostic test and is not covered under Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY), since the scheme focuses on secondary and tertiary hospitalisation procedures.
However, there are government-run breast cancer screening camps under the NPCDCS (National Programme for Prevention & Control of Cancer), where mammograms may be offered at low or no cost.
If your doctor recommends mammography, here are your options:
Undergo the test through public health screening camps, which are often free or subsidised
Check if the mammogram can be bundled under a PMJAY-covered hospitalisation—for instance, if you’re admitted for biopsy or surgery, diagnostics may be included.
