Who needs Blepharoplasty?
This is primarily done to redefine the shape of your eyes by:
- Improving excess sagging or hooded look of your eyelids
- Eliminating wrinkles or dark circles under your eyes
- Correcting drooping eyelids that interfere with your vision

Procedure Description
Your surgeon will perform blepharoplasty either on the upper eyelid or the lower eyelid after:
- taking a detailed medical history
- taking a history about any problems associated with your eyes, use of glasses or lenses, vision problems, or tear production.
- performing tests to check if you have dry eyes.
Your surgeon will also discuss things like:
- Result expectations from the surgery
- Complications that may arise due to blepharoplasty
- Anaesthesia options available for this surgery
The procedure involves:
- Making an incision or a cut in the part where your eyelids fold.
- Removing or repositioning excess fat, skin, or muscle in your upper eyelid.
- Closing the incision
After the surgery,
- Blepharoplasty is an outpatient surgery. which means you will be discharged on the same day of surgery.
- You need to take care of your surgical site and use sunglasses to secure your eyes from sun rays and wind.
- The surgeon will recommend using eye ointments or eye drops to clean your surgical site.
First Follow up Appointment
You will have a follow-up scheduled with your operating surgeon after one-week post-surgery.
Risks and Complications
Occasionally, you might experience the following after blepharoplasty:
- Collection of blood under your skin at the surgical site
- Blurry or double vision
- A slightly uneven (asymmetrical) look of your eyes
At times, the surgery might not result in the expected results, and you might need another surgery to correct it. You may experience problems like:
- Your eye muscles might get injured.
- Your lower eyelids might turn outwards.
- Your lower eyelid might get pulled down from the normal position (also called eyelid retraction).
- Vision problems (occurs rarely, and you will eventually get your vision back).
- Blood clotting
- Too much bleeding from the surgical site
- An allergic reaction to local or general anaesthesia medication
- Infection at the site of surgery
If you have any of the troubles listed below, immediately contact your surgeon.
- Severe pain at the surgical site
- Undesirable results
- Incomplete or improper closure of your eyelids (also called lagophthalmos)
If eyelid retraction or lagophthalmos is not treated on time, it can further lead to problems such as:
- Vision problems
- Corneal disease (keratopathy), associated with continuous eye discomfort.
