Description
Ayushman Bharat dialysis scheme
Dear Mukul Gupta ji,
Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) provides financial support for eligible patients requiring dialysis treatment. Dialysis services are available through Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY empanelled hospitals and the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP), which was launched to provide affordable and accessible dialysis facilities across India.
Patients who are eligible under the scheme can receive cashless treatment as per the approved guidelines.
Under PM-JAY, eligible beneficiaries can get coverage for kidney-related treatments, including
Haemodialysis.
Peritoneal dialysis (as per approved packages).
AV fistula or AV shunt creation required for dialysis.
Hospitalisation-related expenses under approved packages.
Medicines, procedures, and other services included in the treatment package.
The scheme provides health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for eligible beneficiaries.
The Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP) was started to provide dialysis services through government healthcare facilities, especially for patients who need regular dialysis.
Under this programme
Free dialysis services are available for eligible BPL patients.
Dialysis facilities are provided at selected government hospitals and district hospitals.
Patients can access dialysis services closer to their location.
Availability depends on the state, hospital capacity, and eligibility criteria.
Dialysis is usually advised when kidneys are not able to remove waste and extra fluid from the body properly.
Common symptoms of kidney failure may include
Swelling in feet, ankles, or face.
Reduced urine output.
Shortness of breath.
Extreme tiredness or weakness.
Loss of appetite.
Nausea or vomiting.
High blood pressure.
Difficulty concentrating.
Itching and skin problems.
The decision for dialysis is taken by a nephrologist after checking kidney function tests and overall health condition.
In haemodialysis, a dialysis machine filters waste, extra fluid, and toxins from the blood. It is usually performed multiple times a week depending on the patient's condition.
In peritoneal dialysis, the inner lining of the abdomen is used as a filter to remove waste and excess fluid from the body.
The suitable type of dialysis depends on the patient's kidney condition and doctor's advice.
