Hello,

No, heart bypass surgery (CABG) is covered under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY for eligible beneficiaries. However, having a BPL ration card alone does not automatically guarantee free surgery. Your eligibility must be verified in the applicable government health-scheme database, and the surgery must be covered under an approved package at a PM-JAY-empanelled hospital.

Under PM-JAY, eligible families can receive cashless hospitalisation benefits up to the scheme's applicable annual family limit. CABG and other cardiac procedures are included in the PM-JAY health-benefit packages.

What Is Covered Under Ayushman Card?

When CABG is approved under the applicable package, coverage can include eligible hospitalisation-related expenses such as

  • Surgery and operation-theatre charges

  • Surgeon and other medical-team charges

  • Hospitalisation

  • ICU care, where included in the package

  • Medicines and consumables used during covered hospitalisation

  • Required investigations related to the approved treatment

  • Follow-up benefits according to applicable scheme rules

The exact inclusions depend on the approved PM-JAY package and applicable state scheme rules. Therefore, confirm the package with the hospital's Ayushman desk before admission.

Important: BPL Card and Ayushman Card Are Not the Same

A BPL ration card does not by itself mean that CABG will automatically be free.

First, check whether your family is eligible for PM-JAY or another applicable state health scheme. If you already have an Ayushman Card, the hospital can verify your eligibility and process the treatment under the applicable package.

If you only have a BPL ration card and do not have an Ayushman Card, ask the nearest CSC or the relevant state health-scheme authority to check your eligibility.

How to Check Your Eligibility

You can

  1. Check your eligibility through the official PM-JAY beneficiary system.

  2. Visit a nearby Common Service Centre (CSC).

  3. Visit an Ayushman/PM-JAY help desk at an empanelled hospital.

  4. Provide your Aadhaar and ration-card details for verification.

  5. If eligible, complete the Ayushman Card/e-card process.

  6. Ask the hospital to verify whether CABG is covered under your applicable package.

How to Find a Hospital for Free Bypass Surgery

After confirming eligibility

  1. Open the official PM-JAY hospital search facility.

  2. Select your State.

  3. Select your District.

  4. Search for hospitals with Cardiology/CTVS services.

  5. Check that the hospital is currently PM-JAY empanelled.

Documents You Should Carry

Keep these documents ready

  • BPL ration card

  • Ayushman Card/e-card, if already issued

  • Aadhaar Card or other valid ID

  • Cardiologist's prescription/referral

  • Coronary angiography report and CD

  • ECG report

  • 2D Echo report

  • Blood-test reports

  • Previous discharge summaries

  • Previous cardiac treatment records

  • Current medicines and prescriptions

If bypass surgery has already been advised, carry the cardiologist's written recommendation.
