Medical Content and Care Team
Hello,
Yes, a person covered under CGHS can get cashless treatment and eligible operations, but the treatment is not automatically free at every hospital.
The main conditions are that the person must have a valid CGHS card and the treatment should be covered under CGHS rules. For treatment at a private hospital, the hospital generally needs to be a CGHS-empanelled hospital, and the required procedure may need referral or prior approval depending on the case.
Go to the official CGHS Empanelled Hospital Search page.
Select “Search for Hospitals / Diagnostic Centres.”
Select your City from the available options.
Click on “Submit.”
The overall list of CGHS-empanelled hospitals and diagnostic centres available in the selected city will be displayed.
Check the list to find the required hospital or diagnostic centre and confirm whether it is currently CGHS empanelled.
Keep the patient's valid CGHS card ready.
Consult a CGHS Wellness Centre or the authorised CGHS doctor.
Get the patient examined and obtain the required prescription/referral.
Ask whether the advised operation or treatment is covered under CGHS.
Check the current CGHS-empanelled hospital list.
Select a hospital that provides the required treatment and is currently empanelled.
Before admission, confirm with the hospital's CGHS desk whether cashless treatment is available.
Ask whether any referral, permission or pre-authorisation is required.
Carry all medical reports and CGHS documents when going for admission.
Confirm beforehand whether there will be any additional payment for items or services not covered under the applicable CGHS rules.
Valid CGHS Card
Aadhaar or other ID proof, if required
CGHS doctor's prescription/referral
Medical reports and scans
Blood test reports
Previous treatment or discharge records
Doctor's advice for the operation
Current medicines/prescriptions
Please do not assume that every operation is completely free just because the patient has a CGHS card. The exact coverage depends on the treatment, hospital, CGHS rules and required approvals.
If you tell us the patient's treatment/operation and city, we can guide you about the CGHS process and what to check before admission.
Wishing you and your family good health always.
Warm regards,
Team HexaHealth
