Description
My left hand one finger bone is broken, and I need to get it operated
Dear Mohit Kumar ji,
Yes, surgery can be done for a broken finger bone when it is medically required. However, not every finger fracture needs an operation. The treatment depends on the location and severity of the fracture, whether the bone is displaced or unstable, and whether there is deformity or damage to the surrounding nerves or tendons. An X-ray is generally required to assess the fracture properly.
For complicated or unstable fractures, the Orthopaedic/Hand Surgeon may recommend surgery using K-wires, plates, or screws to hold the bone in the correct position while it heals. Stable fractures may instead be managed with a splint or buddy taping.
Get an evaluation from an Orthopaedic or Hand Surgeon.
Carry your latest X-ray or other imaging reports.
Keep the injured finger protected in the splint/support advised by your doctor.
Keep your hand elevated to help reduce swelling.
Apply a cold pack wrapped in a cloth for short periods to help with pain and swelling.
Avoid lifting heavy objects or putting pressure on the injured hand.
Do not try to straighten the finger yourself.
After treatment, appropriate hand exercises or physiotherapy may be recommended to prevent stiffness and restore finger movement.
If the finger is crooked, blue, numb, severely swollen, or there is an open wound with exposed bone, seek urgent medical attention.
We can help you connect with experienced Orthopaedic/Hand Surgeons and suitable partner hospitals for your finger fracture treatment. We can also assist with consultation, X-ray/diagnostic tests, appointment scheduling, and treatment coordination.
Please share your city and state, which finger is fractured, your latest X-ray/report, and whether a doctor has already recommended surgery. Based on these details, we can help identify a suitable specialist and partner hospital for your treatment.
Wishing you and your family good health always.
Warm regards,
Team HexaHealth
