Hello,

Leg swelling along with body pain and persistent tiredness should not be ignored, especially if the swelling is new or increasing. Possible causes include fluid retention, vein problems, infection, medication side effects, or problems involving the heart, kidneys, liver, or thyroid. A blood clot in the leg can also cause sudden swelling and pain, particularly when only one leg is affected.

What You Should Do

  • Consult a physician for a proper examination rather than relying only on home remedies.

  • Check your blood pressure and blood sugar, especially if you have diabetes or hypertension.

  • The doctor may recommend blood tests and, depending on the findings, kidney/liver/thyroid tests, ECG, or a leg Doppler ultrasound.

  • Keep your legs elevated on a pillow while resting.

  • Avoid sitting or standing continuously for long periods.

  • Gentle walking can help circulation if it does not increase pain.

  • Reduce excess salt in your diet.

  • Do not start water tablets (diuretics) or other medicines without medical advice.

When to Seek Urgent Medical Care

Get urgent medical attention if one leg suddenly becomes swollen, painful, red, or warm. If leg swelling is accompanied by sudden breathlessness, chest pain, coughing blood, severe dizziness, or fainting, seek emergency care immediately because these can be signs of a serious blood clot.

Wishing you and your family good health always.
Warm regards,
