If your ultrasound says there is gallbladder swelling but no stones, you should consult a gastroenterologist or general surgeon to determine the exact cause.

What should you do?

• Show the ultrasound/scan report to a doctor.
• The doctor may recommend blood tests such as CBC and liver function tests.
• Depending on your symptoms, further imaging may be advised.
• Treatment depends on the cause and severity.
• If there is significant inflammation or infection, medicines and sometimes hospital treatment may be required.
• Surgery to remove the gallbladder may be recommended in selected cases, even when stones are not present.

Precautions

• Avoid oily, fried and very heavy meals until you are evaluated.
