Is Long-Term Pancreatic Disease Treatment Available at AIIMS Delhi?

For a pancreatic problem that has been continuing for more than 12 months, it would be appropriate to get an evaluation from a Gastroenterologist, particularly a doctor experienced in pancreatic diseases. AIIMS New Delhi has a dedicated Gastroenterology department with a Pancreas Clinic and provides evaluation and treatment for pancreatic diseases, including chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic tumours. 

The exact treatment depends on the diagnosis. The doctor may review previous CT/MRI, blood tests, pancreatic function, symptoms and previous treatment and may advise further tests or procedures such as EUS, ERCP or other treatment when required. 

What to do

1. Collect all previous medical reports and prescriptions.

2. Take the patient to a Gastroenterology consultation at AIIMS New Delhi.

3. Carry previous CT/MRI abdomen reports, ultrasound, blood tests and endoscopy/EUS/ERCP reports, if available.

4. Tell the doctor how long the problem has been present and whether there is abdominal pain, vomiting, weight loss, jaundice or difficulty eating.

5. The Gastroenterologist will decide whether further investigations or treatment are required.

6. If a procedure or hospital admission is needed, the doctor can guide you regarding the appropriate department and next steps.
