Hello,
Yes, after mastectomy and chemotherapy, radiation therapy is commonly considered in breast cancer depending on the final pathology, tumour size, lymph-node involvement, margins, and other factors. The radiation oncologist should review your surgery and chemotherapy records before deciding the radiation plan.
Please carry:
Mastectomy operation/discharge summary
Complete biopsy and histopathology report
Immunohistochemistry report, including ER, PR and HER2 status
Lymph-node pathology report, if lymph nodes were removed
Chemotherapy records and the names of medicines received
Latest CT/PET-CT or other scan reports
Blood-test reports
Previous doctor's prescriptions and treatment records
The radiation oncologist will review these reports and decide whether radiation is needed, which area needs to be treated, the number of sessions, and the appropriate radiation technique.
Since chemotherapy has already been completed, it is better to meet the radiation oncologist with all your records and discuss the recommended timeline rather than choosing a hospital only on the basis of distance.
You can also ask the hospital about the total radiation cost, number of sessions, planning/CT simulation charges, follow-up visits and insurance or government-scheme coverage before starting treatment.
Wishing you and your family good health always.
Warm regards,
Team HexaHealth
