What is the recovery timeline and outlook after forearm sarcoma treatment?

A sarcoma in the left forearm/hand is a serious condition, but treatment is available. Since 5 cycles of chemotherapy have already been completed, the next step should be planned by a sarcoma specialist/oncology team after checking how the tumour has responded to chemotherapy.

What should be checked now?

The doctor will usually review :

• The exact type of sarcoma from the biopsy report

• Tumour size and grade

• Whether the cancer has spread to other parts of the body

• Latest MRI/CT or other scan reports

• How much the tumour has responded to chemotherapy

• Whether the tumour can be removed safely while preserving the hand/arm function

For sarcoma in an arm or hand, limb-sparing surgery may be possible in suitable patients. Radiation therapy may also be given before or after treatment in selected cases. Amputation is not automatically required and is used only in specific situations.
