If the 1-year-old baby has dengue, malaria, or both are suspected, please take the baby to a pediatrician or hospital as soon as possible. Do not give malaria medicines or antibiotics on your own because the medicine and dose depend on the baby's weight, test results and type of infection.

For malaria, the doctor will usually confirm the infection with a blood test or rapid diagnostic test and then choose the appropriate antimalarial medicine according to the parasite type and the child's weight.

For dengue, there is no specific antiviral treatment. The doctor will mainly monitor the baby's hydration, fever, blood counts and warning signs and provide supportive treatment when required. Aspirin and ibuprofen should not be given because they can increase the risk of bleeding.
