Dear anil kumar ji,

Since your circumcision was only 2 days ago, it is generally best to follow the specific bathing and dressing instructions given by your surgeon. The timing can vary depending on the surgical technique, dressing type, stitches, and how the wound is healing.

In many cases, a brief shower may be allowed after the first 24–48 hours, but you should confirm this with your operating doctor, especially if the dressing is still in place.

What If Water Falls on the Wound?

A small amount of clean water touching the wound during a shower is usually not a problem once your doctor has allowed bathing. However

  • Do not scrub, rub or massage the surgical area.

  • Avoid soaking the penis in a bathtub, swimming pool or hot tub until the wound has healed and your surgeon allows it.

  • Do not deliberately keep the wound under running water for a long time.

  • Avoid soap, shower gel, antiseptic liquids or other products directly on the wound unless prescribed.

  • After bathing, gently pat the surrounding area dry with a clean towel; do not rub the wound.

  • If your dressing becomes wet or loose, follow your surgeon's instructions about changing it rather than removing it unnecessarily.

What About the Dressing?

If the dressing is still present, do not remove it just for bathing unless your surgeon specifically instructed you to do so. Some dressings are designed to stay on for a particular period, while others need to be changed earlier.

If the dressing becomes completely soaked, dirty, or falls off, contact your surgeon or the clinic for instructions.

Normal After Circumcision

During the first few days, mild swelling, bruising, tenderness and a small amount of blood spotting can occur. The stitches may also look prominent. These usually improve gradually during healing.

Wear loose, comfortable underwear/clothing and avoid strenuous exercise, cycling and sexual activity until your surgeon says it is safe.

When Should You Contact Your Doctor Urgently?

Seek medical attention if you develop

  • Bleeding that does not stop with gentle pressure

  • Increasing or severe pain

  • Rapidly increasing swelling

  • Pus or foul-smelling discharge

  • Increasing redness or warmth around the wound

  • Fever or chills

  • Difficulty or inability to pass urine

  • The wound opening significantly

Most Important

Because you are only 2 days after surgery, contact the surgeon/clinic that performed your circumcision and ask specifically when they want the dressing removed and when they permit showering. Their instructions should take priority because they know exactly how your procedure and dressing were done.

If you tell me what type of dressing you have (bandage/gauze/waterproof dressing), whether stitches are present, and what instructions your surgeon gave you, We can explain how to manage it more specifically.

Wishing you and your family good health always.
Warm regards,
