Dear pran Krishna Sarkar ji,

High blood pressure (hypertension) along with a mild stroke and a blood clot in the brain needs regular treatment and follow-up with a neurologist. The exact medicines depend on whether the stroke was caused by a clot (ischemic stroke) or bleeding, so medicines should not be started or stopped without the doctor’s advice.

Treatment

  • Take prescribed BP medicines regularly and monitor BP at home.

  • Depending on the cause of the stroke, the doctor may prescribe an antiplatelet or anticoagulant medicine to prevent further clots.

  • A statin may be prescribed to control cholesterol and reduce future stroke risk.

  • Check and control blood sugar and cholesterol.

  • Physiotherapy may be needed if there is weakness, difficulty walking or movement problems.

  • Regular follow-up with a neurologist is important.

Precautions

  • Do not stop BP, blood-thinning or cholesterol medicines on your own.

  • Reduce salt and avoid smoking/tobacco.

  • Eat a balanced diet and stay physically active as advised by the doctor.

  • Keep a record of BP readings.

  • Take prescribed medicines at the same time every day.

Go to Emergency Immediately

If there is sudden face drooping, weakness/numbness of one arm or leg, difficulty speaking, loss of balance, vision changes, severe headache, confusion or unconsciousness, seek emergency medical care immediately. Stroke treatment is time-sensitive.

For most people after an ischemic stroke, doctors aim to control BP to around below 130/80 mmHg, but the appropriate target can vary according to the patient's condition.

Wishing you and your family good health always.
Warm regards,
Team HexaHealth
