Description
Lung infection, might be it contains water.and need treatment asap
Hello,
A lung infection with suspected “water in the lungs” should be checked by a doctor as soon as possible. The term “water in the lungs” can mean different things, such as fluid around the lungs (pleural effusion) or fluid inside the lungs (pulmonary edema). It can also happen along with pneumonia or another infection. The exact cause cannot be confirmed from symptoms alone.
A chest physician/pulmonologist should examine the patient. The doctor advise :
Chest X-ray or CT scan to check the lungs and fluid
Blood tests to look for infection and inflammation
Oxygen-level (SpO₂) monitoring
Sputum tests if an infection is suspected
Ultrasound of the chest to check for fluid
Other tests depending on the patient's symptoms and medical history
Treatment depends on the actual cause.
A bacterial lung infection may require antibiotics prescribed by the doctor.
If there is significant fluid around the lung, the doctor may need to remove the fluid using a procedure such as drainage.
Low oxygen may require oxygen support.
If the fluid is caused by a heart, kidney, or liver problem, that underlying condition also needs treatment.
Severe infection or breathing difficulty may require hospital admission and close monitoring.
Not every patient with a lung infection needs a procedure to remove fluid. The decision depends on the amount of fluid, its cause and the patient's overall condition.
Until the doctor evaluates the patient :
Take prescribed medicines on time.
Drink fluids as advised by the doctor. Do not force large amounts of water if there is suspected fluid accumulation or heart/kidney disease.
Get adequate rest.
Avoid smoking and second-hand smoke.
Eat light, nutritious meals and maintain good hygiene.
Do not start antibiotics, steroids or diuretics (water tablets) without medical advice.
Please do not wait for a routine appointment if the patient has :
Severe difficulty breathing
Very low oxygen level or bluish lips/fingertips
Chest pain
Confusion, fainting or extreme drowsiness
Coughing up blood
Rapid worsening of symptoms
Very high or persistent fever with severe weakness
These symptoms can indicate a serious condition and require urgent hospital treatment.
