Can fat lumps be dissolved naturally or do they require medical treatment?

Soft, movable lumps under your father’s skin may be lipomas, which are usually benign growths made of fatty tissue. However, every lump should be examined by a doctor before assuming it is a lipoma.

Lipomas generally cannot be dissolved naturally with exercise, weight loss, massage, creams, turmeric, oils, or other home remedies. Weight loss may reduce overall body fat, but it usually does not make an existing lipoma disappear.

What Causes Lipomas?

The exact cause of lipomas is not always known. They can occur due to

• Genetic or family tendency

• Benign overgrowth of fat cells

• Multiple lipomas occurring in some families

Treatment for Lipoma

If the lumps are small, painless, and confirmed as lipomas, treatment may not be necessary. The doctor may simply recommend monitoring them.

When removal is required because of pain, growth, discomfort, location, or cosmetic concerns, options can include

• Surgical excision: The lipoma is removed through a small incision, usually under local anaesthesia. This is the most established way to completely remove a lipoma.

• Liposuction: Fatty tissue can be suctioned through a small opening in selected cases, although complete removal may be less certain.

• Other treatments: These may be considered in selected cases based on the lump’s size, location, and diagnosis.

Do not try to cut, squeeze, puncture, or massage the lumps aggressively at home, as this can cause infection, bleeding, or injury.
