Can use Ayushman Card for severe leg pain treatment?

Yes, Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY can cover eligible orthopaedic treatment and certain leg surgeries at PM-JAY empanelled hospitals.

Since you are unable to walk properly and cannot sit or stand comfortably for 30 minutes, you should get evaluated by an orthopaedic doctor soon. The cause could be a joint problem, arthritis, nerve compression, muscle problem, injury, circulation problem or another condition.

How to Check Ayushman Hospital

Before visiting a hospital

1. Open the PM-JAY Hospital Finder.

2. Select your State and District.

3. Select the speciality as Orthopaedics, if available.

4. Search the hospital name.

5. Confirm that the hospital is currently PM-JAY empanelled.

Documents Required

Keep these documents ready

• Ayushman Bharat/PM-JAY card

• Aadhaar card or valid government ID

• Doctor's prescription or consultation papers

• X-ray, MRI, CT or other reports, if already available

• Blood-test reports, if available

• Previous treatment records

• Previous discharge summary, if applicable

Will Surgery Be Required?

Not necessarily. Surgery should only be considered after identifying the cause of your leg pain. Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may involve medicines, physiotherapy, exercises, supportive treatment or surgery.

If the doctor finds a condition such as a fracture, ligament injury, severe joint problem or another surgical condition, an eligible procedure may be covered under PM-JAY after package approval.

When Should You Seek Urgent Care?

Please seek urgent medical attention if :

• You suddenly cannot move or bear weight on the leg.

• One leg is severely swollen, red or unusually warm.

• The leg becomes cold, pale or bluish.

• You develop sudden weakness or numbness.

• You have severe back pain with weakness in the legs.

• You develop chest pain or breathing difficulty along with leg swelling/pain.
