I am 40years old, I want my complete health checkup. What should I do
Hello,
At 40, a routine preventive health checkup is a good idea even if you feel healthy. Start with a consultation with a physician or internal medicine specialist, who can review your medical history, family history, lifestyle and risk factors and then recommend the tests you actually need.
Depending on your health and risk factors, your doctor recommend
Blood pressure and pulse measurement
Height, weight and BMI assessment
Complete Blood Count (CBC)
Fasting blood glucose and/or HbA1c
Lipid profile for cholesterol
Liver function tests
Kidney function tests
Thyroid function tests, if indicated
Urine routine examination
Vitamin B12 and vitamin D, if clinically indicated
ECG, particularly if you have cardiac symptoms or risk factors
Diabetes screening is recommended for adults aged 35–70 who have overweight or obesity.Blood-pressure screening is also particularly important from age 40 onward.
The appropriate screening also depends on whether you are male or female and your personal risk factors
For women aged 40–74 at average risk, mammography every two years is recommended by the USPSTF. Cervical cancer screening should also be kept up to date according to the recommended schedule.
For both men and women, colorectal cancer screening generally starts at age 45 for average-risk adults, so you may discuss this with your doctor as you approach that age.
You do not necessarily need every test available in a "full body checkup." Unnecessary scans or tests can lead to false-positive results and additional investigations.
