Eye treatment for my mother age 65 allready diabetes patients
Hello,
At the age of 65, especially with diabetes, regular eye evaluation is very important because diabetes can affect the retina and may increase the risk of cataract, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and other vision problems.
Your mother should have a complete eye examination by an ophthalmologist. The doctor check :
Vision and eye power
Eye pressure for glaucoma
Retina and blood vessels for diabetic retinopathy
Cataract or clouding of the eye lens
Any swelling or bleeding in the retina
Whether there is any damage to the optic nerve
Depending on the findings, the doctor recommend medicines, glasses, injections, laser treatment, cataract treatment, or another procedure. Not every diabetic patient needs eye surgery.
Home care cannot reverse retinal damage, but it can help protect eye health :
Keep blood sugar under good control as advised by her doctor.
Monitor blood pressure and cholesterol.
Take diabetes medicines regularly.
Avoid smoking.
Do not use eye drops without medical advice.
Attend regular eye follow-ups, even if her vision currently seems normal.
If she suddenly develops loss of vision, severe eye pain, flashes of light, many new floaters, a dark curtain/shadow over the vision, or sudden blurred vision, seek urgent eye care.
For the right ophthalmologist and hospital, please share your city and state. We can help connect your mother with a suitable doctor and partner hospital based on her eye problem and treatment needs.
HexaHealth is not a hospital. HexaHealth can help patients connect with suitable doctors and partner hospitals.
Wishing you and your family good health always.
Warm regards,
Team HexaHealth
