Hello,

Yes. The main point is that an Ayushman Card is not a bank account or an ATM card. You cannot withdraw the ₹5 lakh as cash or transfer the amount to your bank account. The ₹5 lakh is a health cover for eligible beneficiaries and is used for covered treatment at empanelled hospitals.

How does the Ayushman Card amount work?

Under AB-PMJAY, eligible families generally receive health cover of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for covered secondary and tertiary hospitalization. As of June 2026, the scheme had authorised 12.69 crore cashless hospital admissions through its empanelled hospital network.

For example:

  • Suppose a covered treatment costs ₹1.5 lakh.

  • You go to an empanelled hospital and your eligibility and treatment package are approved.

  • The hospital processes the treatment under PM-JAY.

  • The applicable amount is settled under the scheme with the hospital.

  • You do not receive ₹1.5 lakh in cash.

  • The remaining available family cover is based on the scheme's applicable entitlement and authorised claims.

The ₹5 lakh should therefore not be understood as a cash balance that you can withdraw.

Can withdraw money from my Ayushman Card?

No. You cannot :

  • Withdraw cash from an ATM using the Ayushman Card

  • Transfer the ₹5 lakh to your bank account

  • Receive the unused amount as cash

  • Ask an agent to withdraw the amount for you

Be careful if anyone says they can "withdraw Ayushman money" for a commission. That is not how PM-JAY works.

How is payment made?

PM-JAY provides cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals for covered services. The hospital processes the eligible treatment/claim under the scheme rather than giving the beneficiary the treatment amount in cash.

However, "cashless" does not mean that absolutely every hospital expense is automatically free. The treatment must be covered under the applicable PM-JAY package, and the hospital must follow the scheme's rules. Non-covered services or optional expenses may not be included.

How can check Ayushman details?
