Description
For kidney transplant can we use ayushman health card
Hello,
Yes. Kidney transplant treatment is covered under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY. The National Health Authority has included organ and tissue transplantation packages under PM-JAY, including renal (kidney) transplant packages.
However, this does not mean that every hospital performing kidney transplants will automatically provide the transplant under Ayushman. You must verify that the hospital is currently empanelled for the relevant transplant package.
Before admission, follow these steps
Check that the patient's Ayushman PM-JAY eligibility is active.
Search the official PM-JAY empanelled-hospital list.
Select your state and district.
Search the exact hospital name.
Confirm that the hospital is currently empanelled under PM-JAY.
Check whether the hospital has a kidney/renal transplant facility.
Specifically ask whether the hospital is empanelled for the renal transplant package.
For verification and transplant evaluation, keep these documents ready
Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY Card
Aadhaar Card or valid government identity proof
Nephrologist's prescription/referral
Kidney function and creatinine reports
Dialysis records, if the patient is undergoing dialysis
Ultrasound/CT reports, if available
Blood and urine test reports
Previous hospital discharge summaries
Previous treatment records
Transplant evaluation reports
Blood-group report
Any reports relating to the proposed donor
Other documents requested by the transplant centre
The transplant hospital may require additional medical and legal documentation for the donor and recipient as part of the organ-transplant approval process.
Kidney transplantation involves separate medical and regulatory requirements for the recipient and donor. Therefore, even when the patient is eligible for PM-JAY, the transplant can proceed only after the transplant centre completes the required medical evaluation and statutory approvals.
The National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation's transplant documentation specifically records whether a patient is covered under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, so the scheme can be considered as a source of financial assistance for eligible transplant patients.
If the patient has severe breathlessness, very little or no urine, severe swelling, chest pain, confusion, persistent vomiting, or another medical emergency, seek immediate hospital care. Do not delay emergency treatment while completing insurance formalities. PM-JAY has a process for emergency cases where beneficiary identification documents cannot immediately be provided.
We connect patients with suitable nephrologists, transplant surgeons and partner hospitals and can assist with consultations, appointments, investigations, treatment coordination and hospital-related support.
If you share your city, state and the hospital where you are considering the kidney transplant, we can guide you on the specific Ayushman checks and documents to confirm before proceeding.
Wishing you and your family good health always.
Warm regards,
Team HexaHealth
