Dr Vikas Thakran completed his MBBS, MD in Internal Medicine and DM in Cardiology in 2014 from AIIMS, New Delhi, securing Rank 1 in the DM Cardiology examination and receiving the Dr Jagdish Lal Kapila Gold Medal as the best outgoing DM student.

He received the IMA Dhirendra Nath Dutta Award in Cardiology in 2015, the IAMICON Award for Indravadan Ambalal Modi Academic Excellence in 2015, the ESPN Scorpio Speedster Award in 2004, and the MAMCOS Best Sportsperson Award.
