The Bitter Truth Behind a Tragedy: My Sister’s Story My innocent sister along her simple husband visited the Oncology Department at SKIMS, Soura (Karan Nagar), for a consultation. While they were outside the department, they were approached Dr. Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad. He advised them not to wait at SKIMS, Karan Nagar, but instead to visit him at Shifa Hospital, where he claimed he could provide better and faster treatment. Trusting his word, my sister and her husband went to Shifa Hospital. There, Dr. Zahoor referred her to Dr. Mukhtar's Clinic for a colonoscopy. The report showed only a minor wound, an initial stage of colrectal cancer, but Dr. Zahoor told my sister that her condition was extremely serious and she would only survive for one more month unless she underwent immediate surgery at Shifa Hospital. He demanded three lakh rupees for the procedure. At the time, I was outside the state. My sister called me crying, begging for the money. I was frightened and confused, unsure of what to do. I sent her the money, hoping to save her life. Dr. Zahoor performed a bypass surgery, and afterwards assured us that she was cured. However, within six months, her cancer returned. By then, I had returned home and took her to the Oncology Department at SKIMS, Karan Nagar. There, we consulted Dr. Sanaullah Kuchey, the Head of Oncology. After examining her case, he told us something that shocked me: her cancer could have been treated with simple radiation therapy and medication followed by minor surgical intervention. He told us with anger that the major surgery she had undergone was not only unnecessary, but the sole cause of her worsened condition. He cried loudly --“She was executed by Dr. Sheikh Zahoor Naik" and now she had no complete recovery treatment" That’s when the truth hit me. Later, my maternal uncle was diagnosed with the same disease with more severe condition compared to my sister and we treated him at SKIMS, Karan Nagar. The doctors their handled the case with expertise, and my uncle was fully recovered and is now cent percent normal without any bypass. Even though my sister’s condition worsened, before death, Dr. Javaid Muzamil, one of the most compassionate and competent medical oncologists at SKIMS tried his best and managed to extend her life for three years, giving us precious time with her. For that, I’ll always be grateful. But the betrayal we experienced--the manipulation, the pressure for money, the unnecessary surgery--has left deep wounds in my sister’s family. I believe that Dr. Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad used his position not to heal, but to profit from people’s fear. His actions were not only unethical but life-destroying. I pray to Allah for justice--in this world and the next--for those who misuse their sacred duty as doctors and end lives that could have been fully saved. I am writing this story with a heavy heart-- not out of vengeance, but to share the bitter truth. While some may see him as a healer, for me and my sister’s family, he will always be remembered as the person who misled, exploited, and ultimately caused the death of my sister.
