Dr. Shyam Kolvekar

Dr Shyam Kolvekar is a reputed Cardiothoracic and Vascular (CTVS) Surgeon in Mumbai. He is currently associated as a Consultant with ACI Cumballa Hill Hospital. 

With over 10 years of experience, he has worked at The Wellington Clinic, The London Clinic, The Harley Street Clinic Glenfield Hospital, Leicester and others.

He also serves as the surgical lead for a major clinical trial studying neuropsychological outcomes in CABG patients.

This trial compares outcomes in patients operated with and without cardioplegia and is being conducted in collaboration with Professor Newman’s team.

He is widely recognised across the world for his expertise in the adult Nuss procedure.

He works alongside Professor Yellon on research exploring ischaemic preconditioning in diabetic patients treated with oral hypoglycaemic medications.

• Remote ischaemic preconditioning reduces myocardial injury in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cold-blood cardioplegia: a randomised controlled trial
• Use of gentamicin–collagen sponges in closure of sternal wounds in cardiothoracic surgery to reduce wound infections
• Diagnosis in chest wall deformities

He co-edited the comprehensive book "Chest Wall Deformities and Corrective Procedures".

In addition, he has also been part ERICCA trial that explored the role of remote ischaemic preconditioning in improving outcomes for cardiac surgery patients.

Over the years, he has refined the traditional Nuss technique by introducing innovative methods that improve pain management and lower surgical risks.

He frequently travels internationally to train surgeons and deliver lectures on these advanced approaches.

He is also an active member of:
