Dr. Sunil Bhat

A specialist in Paediatric Oncology with a rich experience of over 20 years is currently working in Mazumdar Shaw Medical Center. He has expertise in Asia with haploidentical transplants employing alpha-beta TCR depletion procedures, which is his main area of focus in blood and marrow transplantation in children. He has performed more than a thousand paediatric transplants. He has authored numerous book chapters in addition to more than 60 publications. He was a pioneer in developing newer methods for paediatric bone marrow transplants and recommendations for the therapy of brain tumours in Indian children. His main areas of interest in research are infections following BMT, virus-specific T-Cell treatment, and graft vs host disease. He has played a key role in introducing more modern bone marrow transplant procedures, such as half-matched (haploidentical) transplants, to India. He has handled numerous complex medical cases and is known for attention to detail, accurate diagnosis and treating patients with empathy.
