Dr. Rupendu Thongavalen

Dr Rupendu Thongavalen is working as the Head of the Department of Orthopaedics at Vasavi Hospital, Kumaraswamy. He has 44 years of experience and worked as an expert in different cities of India. He was previously associated with Trauma and Joint Clinic. 

He has contributed to handling numerous complex medical cases in several hospitals. He has performed over 2000 common replacement surgeries to date. His special interests include:

1. Ilizarov technique for deformity corrections and Limb lengthening
2. Management of complicated periarticular and pelvic injuries
3. Complicated and revision joint replacements
4. Minimally invasive spine surgeries and deformity corrections

He is an active member of the Karnataka Medical Council (KMC) and the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

Dr Thongavalen did his MBBS from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute in 1979. He also completed an MS in Orthopaedics from Bangalore University in 1987. He has participated in research work and various workshops under the same department and published many papers. 

He got training in advanced methods of fracture fixation from Davos, Switzerland.
