Clinical Experience

Dr Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao completed his MS in ENT at Manipal University with distinction before completing his DNB and then spending six and a half years at the Skull Base unit of Casa Di Cura Piacenza (Gruppo Otologico) in Italy, where he trained under Mario Sanna, Jacques Magnan, and Paolo Castelnuovo.

On returning to India he served as Assistant Medical Officer at Wenlock Government District Hospital, Mangalore, and subsequently as Assistant and Associate Professor at Manipal Academy of Higher Education and Srinivas University before joining Manipal Hospitals, Old Airport Road where he heads the Skull Base Surgery Programme and Hearing Implantology unit.

He is an Adjunct Professor at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore and an Honorary Associate Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.

He is also a member of the Government of Karnataka COVID Task Force and Sub Committee on Mucormycosis and runs a charitable initiative for underprivileged patients with head, neck, skull base, and hearing disorders through the World Skull Base Foundation.

Dr Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao has over 150 peer-reviewed scientific publications indexed in PubMed, 40 chapters in various international textbooks, and is the author of 3 textbooks published by Thieme Publishers, Stuttgart, New York: Surgery for Cochlear and Other Auditory Implants (2016), The Temporal Bone: Anatomical Dissection and Surgical Approaches (2018), and Color Atlas of Endo-otoscopy (2018).

He is an invited faculty at major international skull base, neurosurgery, and ENT conferences and has delivered prestigious named orations across India and internationally.
