Please continue reading to learn more about Ayushman Bharat and why is it celebrated across the country.Ayushman Bharat Scheme is celebrated as Ayushman Bharat Diwas every year on April 30 to spread awareness among the people living in villages about the various health schemes by the government. The importance of this healthcare programme, which benefits the most vulnerable members of society, is recognised on Ayushman Bharat Diwas.

About Ayushman Bharat

On this day, in 2018, our Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Ayushman Bharat Scheme is one of the largest healthcare schemes funded by the government to make quality healthcare accessible to the masses and a commitment to “leave no one behind”.
Ayushman Bharat scheme comprises two interrelated components. These components are:

Establishment of Healthcare and Wellness Centres:

The government aims to build 1,50,000 health and wellness centres closer to people and communities. These centres will be well equipped to provide comprehensive primary health care (CPHC). It will cover both child and maternal health services and non-communicable diseases. It will also provide free essential drugs and diagnostic services.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana:

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana aims to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Sustainable Development Goal-3, also known as (SDG3) to provide health protection coverage to the poor and vulnerable. This scheme will protect families against financial risks from catastrophic health conditions.

Aim of PMJAY

With the help of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), the government aims to provide health cover and financial protection to 10.74 crore people from poor and deprived communities. PM-JAY will cover the hospitalisation and medical expenses of secondary and tertiary care procedures. In addition, it has defined 1350 medical packages covering medical daycare treatments, including medicines, diagnostics, transportation, and surgical procedures.

Under this scheme, there is no limit put on family size and age. It ensures that no one (especially women, children, and the elderly) is left behind. The scheme will be cashless and paperless, and people will not be required to pay any charges or hospitalisation expenses. Once the PM-JAY project is implemented, it will become the largest government-funded healthcare scheme. People from middle and lower-middle-class income families often struggle to pay for their healthcare expenses, so through healthcare schemes like Ayushman Bharat, the government is trying to ease the pressure off people and put a smile across everyone’s faces.

Ayushman Bharat is the world’s most significant health insurance policy because of its vast scale and benefits. It covers Knee Replacement, Bypass Surgery, and many other life-threatening conditions. It can significantly relieve the vulnerable population living in remote areas of the country. However, many people across the country still lack awareness of government-funded healthcare schemes and cannot benefit from them. Therefore, spreading information and awareness regarding Ayushman Bharat healthcare schemes can be life-saving for some people as it can provide financial support during any medical emergency. It is essential to spread awareness regarding this scheme to give a sense of positivity and hope to the marginalised and weaker sections of society.

Conclusion

The Ayushman Bharat Diwas celebrates the spirit of this healthcare scheme on April 30 of every year. It aims to educate and create awareness among people of the rural and vulnerable population about the healthcare benefits aided by the government and to promote affordable medical facilities.
