A lipoma is usually an oval-shaped lump of tissue situated between your skin and the underlying muscle layer. It can be felt if you run your palm and fingers over it. Lipomas are soft, painless nodules of fat cells that are benign and found in subcutaneous tissue. Lipomas grow slowly and are mostly non-cancerous. Lipomas are also known as 'charbi ki gaanth'.
If you have a lipoma, you will experience the following symptoms -
• Painless - Most lipomas are painless. They become painful and cause discomfort based on their location, size, and pressure.
• Shape - Lipomas are fatty tissue lumps, rubbery in texture, usually round or oval-shape, and primarily symmetrical.
• Movement - Since lipomas sit just below your skin's surface, they move on being touched. You can hold a lipoma and shift it underneath your skin.
