Donors and recipients are matched based on having compatible blood types and ideally should be similar in size. Matching of living-donor livers with recipients is based on age, blood type, organ size and other factors

  3. The donor should be older than 18 years of age and younger than 55 years of age
  4. The physical and mental health of the donor should be good

Types of Liver Transplant

A liver transplant, also known as a hepatic transplant, is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of a diseased liver to replace it with a healthy one. The part of the healthy liver is taken either from a deceased or a living donor. It is a lifesaving treatment for a person suffering from end-stage liver disease and acute liver failure.

The liver of the healthy living donor soon grows back to normal size. The part of the liver which is received grows to normal size in some time.

Process for Liver Transplant

  3. Identification of liver donor within immediate family*
  4. Donor & recipient matching through diagnostic tests
  5. If matched, living donor transplant is opted post consent & approvals
